eureka!

*phew* rc1 (read: release candidate one) is done and printed. i'm getting it proof-read tonight and tomorrow morning, and then handing it in tomorrow afternoon or tuesday, depending on when i can arrange a meeting with my teacher. i'll probably come up with some last-minute changes tonight and tomorrow morning, but apart from that, i'm done. all in all, i am happy with the paper, although i could have easily continued editing things for another week or so. watch this space for further updates regarding this paper and my thesis, though you can expect things to quiet down for a week or two while i get other work done.
